Frequently Asked Questions

RN Psychotherapy is mental health therapy provided by a Registered Nurse with training and experience in mental health assessment, support, counselling, and therapy techniques of various modalities. As an RN Psychotherapist, I integrate evidence-based therapeutic approaches with a strong understanding of the mind–body connection, environmental and social factors, and nervous system health.
This allows for care that is both clinically grounded and deeply human.

RN Psychotherapy offers a unique approach to mental health care by integrating evidence-based psychotherapy with the clinical insight of nursing practice. As a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist, I bring a deep understanding of both emotional well-being and physical health, allowing therapy to be grounded in the full context of your life — not just your symptoms.
This perspective can be especially valuable when mental health concerns are influenced by factors such as stress physiology, hormonal shifts, sleep disruption, chronic health conditions, medication effects, or major life transitions. Rather than viewing mental health in isolation, RN Psychotherapy recognizes how closely the mind and body are connected.
In many ways, this approach allows for more nuanced, holistic care. Sessions are not about medical treatment or diagnosis, but about understanding how emotional experiences, physical states, and life circumstances interact — and using that understanding to support meaningful change.
RN Psychotherapy can feel particularly supportive for individuals who:
• Feel their emotional struggles are intertwined with physical or life stressors
• Are navigating pregnancy, postpartum, caregiving, or health-related anxiety
• Want therapy that acknowledges both nervous system regulation and emotional insight
At its core, RN Psychotherapy offers the same depth, safety, and professionalism as traditional psychotherapy — with the added benefit of a whole-person, health-informed lens.

No referral or diagnosis is required. You are welcome to book therapy based on your own goals, concerns, or desire for support.
-
The first session is a collaborative conversation. We’ll discuss:
• What brought you to therapy
• Your goals and hopes for support
• Relevant personal, emotional, and health history
There is no pressure to share everything at once — therapy moves at your pace.
-
Initial sessions are 60 minutes. Ongoing therapy sessions are available in 60-minute or 90-minute appointments, depending on your needs and preferences. The length of your involvement with me is dependent upon your individual situation and needs, but I generally recommend weekly visits for the first 4 weeks, followed by a transition to biweekly or monthly visits for 2-3 months. After this some clients prefer to reach out on an as-needed basis, but I often recommend scheduling check-in or maintenance sessions every 6-8 weeks as a way to refresh skills and work through any novel issues.
-
I offer both:
• Virtual psychotherapy sessions
• In-person appointments in a cozy, home office setting
Virtual sessions allow for flexible, accessible care from the comfort of your own space.
-
Many extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy provided by a Registered Nurse, but coverage varies by provider.
I recommend confirming coverage directly with your insurance company. Receipts are provided for reimbursement.
If you encounter issues or questions from your insurance provider, I am happy to provide a letter with my information and credentials in support of your claim, if applicable.

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a foundational part of therapy. Your privacy is respected and protected in accordance with professional standards and legal requirements.
I know that in small communities this can be a concern for clients. I ensure the utmost discretion in booking and communication to prevent any possibility of privacy breach. I do not book in-person appointments at my office back-to-back to further protect your privacy. If I see you out in the community- I will never initiate contact or acknowledge a professional relationship- however you are always welcome to say “Hi” if comfortable!
